Porsche RS Spyder
Peter van Merksteijn has always had the wish to be once on the podium at the 24 hours of Le Mans with his own team, and if possible on the highest step. After Porsche Motorsport announced that the in the American Le Mans Series so successful RS Spyder would also become available for European teams he was the first to order one of the three available potential Le Mans winners. A completely new, all Dutch, race team was formed which under the guidance of former Sauber Formula 1 engineer Armand Broekmans worked hard to get the car ready for the start of this unique project. With the driver line up Van Merksteijn Motorsport did not any corners by contracting Jeroen Bleekemolen and Jos Verstappen to join Peter van Merksteijn in the car.

The results of this past year have proven that our method worked. 5 Out of 6 races in which Van Merksteijn Motorsport took part were won outright. The near perfect score is quite unique and the team is among the three most successful teams in the history of the championship. Only at Monza Peter and Jos needed to settle for second place due to time loss after sustaining damage from an encounter with a slower GT2 car.

The main objective of the Porsche RS Spyder project for Van Merksteijn Motorsport was the entrance of the team in the 24 hours of Le Mans. Few people could have predicted that the new team of Peter van Merksteijn would in its first attempt not only be on the podium but also claim the victory of this famous race with such a margin. Peter van Merksteijn crossed the finish line 7 laps ahead of the number 2, Team Essex also with a Porsche RS Spyder, and took possession of the treasured trophy.
